On Saturday 18th June 2011, through the inspiration of Very Rev Father Finbarr Neylon C.C. (Most Precious Blood, Cabra West) a Mass of Gratitude, Thanksgiving & Remembrance was held for past pupils of St Catherine’s Primary School, Cabra West. The Mass was celebrated in the convent chapel. Quite a large number of past pupils turned out for the occasion. For some it was a strange feeling to be back in the chapel where they made their First Holy Communion, bringing to mind many happy and treasured memories of that special day so long ago. Some people brought along photographs of their time in the school and this too led to a sharing of memories. After the Mass all those in attendance were invited to view the nearby Nun’s Graveyard. Many familiar names were to be seen on the little black crosses that marked the grave site. Today was the first occasion that a special mass was celebrated for and with past pupils of the school. Father Finbarr expressed his wish that today would be the beginning  of many such past pupils reunions and also emphasised the importance  of past pupils becoming involved in the organising of such events in the future. He also suggested that people could bring along their children and grandchild to future events. This event was a great success. A special thanks to all those involved in making it come to pass. Hopefully next year or whenever the next Mass is being organised it can be advertised here on the Cabra History.Com website and hopefully some people may even travel from abroad to attend.
