Especially for Terry Gray, this is one of several photos I have of the Cabra Baths. The baths was closed down and eventually torn down in the 1970s. I don’t have a photo of the baths filled with young lads running and jumping into the water. I’ve been promised a photo of the baths on its official opening day. Hope this one brings back some good happy memories to you Terry.

Here is a fine group of Cabra girls who meet up with each other on a regular basis whenever time allows. They were all in school together and have always kept in touch with each other over the years. Now hopefully I’ll have all of the names in the right order, correct spelling etc. L-R: Noeleen Gibson, Bridget Stuart, Alice Gibson, May Kavanagh, Kathleen Staunton, Bridie Staunton, Rose Gibson, Betty Staunton, Louise Stuart and Marchie Gibson. Many thank’s to Marchie Gibson for the photograph.

Paddy Gibson with his wife ALice (Holden) lived on Liscannor Road. Paddy worked in Jameson’s Brewery. The family originally lived on the Phibsboro’ Road before moving into Cabra West. Paddy and Alice had a large family of seven daughters, Alice, Marchie, Noeleen, Rose, Tess, Anne and Lily and four boys Billy, Martin, John and Paddy. (I hope I have that right). A great big thank you to Marchie for the photograph and information.

Dublin 103.2 FM interview for 'A Time To Remember'
I was recently approached by Gerard Counihan from Dublin 103.2 fm radio station and asked to do a radio interview about my recent book ‘A Time To Remember…Cabra and it’s People’. When I met Ger we instantly hit it off because he too hails from Cabra, Dowth Avenue to be exact. Ger’s mother still lives in the family home and had heard about my book. She phoned Ger and said ‘get him on your radio talking about Cabra’. Well what can I say…when the Ma’ tells you to do something…Anyway, of course I agreed to do the interview, any chance to talk about Cabra West/Cabra and its people. We did no rehearsing for the programme. Ger had some set questions to ask and some that came from the course of our conversation. It was a great experience and a very relaxed interview. Ger kindly arranged for me to link the interview onto the Cabra History.Com wesbsite so that people worldwide could listen to it. So many thanks to Mrs Counihan of Quarry Road in Cabra for taking an interest in its history and its people and of course thanks to Ger and Dublin 103.2 FM radio for the opportunity to share our great heritage.
