Always in my heart…

In about 1978 this little boy, Michael Power became my Foster Son, he was only a baby then. After much grief from the Health Board Michael became one of my children for the next eight years. He had a hearing difficulty and had to wear two hearing aids. He integrated well with the rest of my children and settled in to a happy home life. In the 1980’s he began attending St Joseph’ School for Deaf Boys in Cabra West as a full time boarder as we were living in Waterford then. My family from Killala Road often visited with him. He was sent home to us at weekends. On moving to Dublin I would collect him each Friday and take him home until Sunday evening. Shortly after my move to Dublin Michael went back to his mother and five siblings in Tipperary where I went to visit him. The family then moved to Manchester and we lost touch with each other. In recent years Michael’s eldest brother and I reconnected and he brought me up to date on the family situation. I had plans to visit them all in Manchester this year. Although Michael lived with us as part of our family for eight years he still remained in our hearts as one of us. Yesterday morning Michael sadly and tragically passed away at the young age of 37 years…
