Book Launch (See picture gallery)
‘A Time of Innocence’ which covers the period of the early 1950’s – late 1960’s and tells of life as a middle child growing up in a family of 15 children in Cabra West. Over 100 people attended the launch and the number of books available on the night were sold out in under 10 minutes. The book however is still available from Waterstones, Choice Publishing on-line and from the author through this site. It can also be ordered through your local bookstore anywhere in the world. Martin read some extracts from the book including his poem ‘Do You Remember Christmas in Our House’. Here is a short extract of the poem:
‘Do you remember Christmas time in our house years ago
When me Da’ brought home a Christmas tree on his bicycle in the snow?
We took down the decorations that were stored in a biscuit box
And underneath the Christmas tree we placed our little socks.
Mammy made the puddings in a pillowcase to hang
While Daddy fixed the fairy lights that were sure to make a bang.
My sisters and my mother took charge to wash us clean
Into the kitchen sink we’d climb and come out with a glean.
A blazing fire was ready each one of us to dry
We’d gaze up at the Christmas tree each little girl and boy’
