There was great excitement, fun and frolics in Cabra West yesterday. Fassaugh Avenue was festooned with balloons, buntings and gaels of laughter as a campaign to encourage people to Shop Local took off. Most every shop on the Avenue had some kind of display and goodies to eat and drink set up on tables outside their premises. And of course not forgetting the Ladies Art Group had their paintings on show by the Church railings. With the sun splitting the trees and everyone rigged out in their summer best the atmosphere was electric. Too many shops in city centre have all closed their doors never to open again in trying to battle against the giant stores who can afford to take a hit in these recessionary times. It was a true tonic to see so many Cabrarians pulling together in an effort to save their community.
