Does anyone remember a shop called Mullannys in Cabra in the 1960s? An older relative worked there in about 1968 and I’m trying to figure out where it used to be.
Cheers for any help,
Mags

Cabra’s Cyber Years By/Tony Gorman
Imagine those days way back in the past
If you were to go back for a while
Our parents gladly chatting away
Telling stories that made us all smile
And outside our friends playing all of their games
As the skipping ropes twirled in the air
And us boys looking on with hopes of a kiss
But alas it might end in despair
What beauties they were like a true fragrant rose
One kiss and you’d do summersaults
But as boys at the time it was just puppy love
And giving our hearts was one of our faults
Our friends were of an unmistakeable lot
For we bonded so well in a way
And throughout our years we’d never forget
That our friendships was destined to stay
And the girls through the years they blossom in age
And they married new loves that they found
Some lads from Cabra where we grew up
Some sailed overseas to new ground
As the world was their oyster, they travelled afar
To Canada, Australia and the States
The Hanna’s, La Combre’s, Stanley’s and Gilmer’s as well
But through the years they remained best of mates
For we never forget those friends of old
As we disappear back to our past
The only regrets we have about this
When we’re there that our time doesn’t last
But back to today in a computerised world
The posts from us all show on screen
And it’s great to see how our lives have transpired
A technology that in our youth was unforeseen
So hello to all of my old Cabra friends
As we converse in our new Cyber way
And I’m wishing you all happiness in great store
When the chimes they ring out New Years Day
To all my friends on Facebook Happy New Year
Happy and healthy new year to one and all.
Thinking of everyone.
Kindest regards to one and all.
Jo.
Hello all,
Nice one Tony. Hello to everyone.
Hope all are keeping well.
Hope you all have a peaceful homespun Christmas.
Without a doubt Christmases past come to mind.
The messenger boys doing the rounds.
I’m sure some had tough times others tender times
But we were all glad to have what we needed.
Grateful for any gift no matter how small.
Few sweets n few pennies in our stocking.
Our own washed socks or maybe a new pair .
Ribbons blessed to have new ribbons in our hair.
Likewise grateful for grub n a pudding n custard.
Greetings to you all.
Have a lovely Christmas and good health .
Peace to all.
Kindest regards to everyone everywhere.
Thinking of loved ones near and far and all
Who have gone ahead of us.
To me they are angels who have earned their wings.
All are cherished.
Extra hello to all my family and all on here.
Love Jo.
My Christmas Poem
———————
Be at one with life By/Tony Gorman
Christmas time and bells start to chime
Ringing out the festive joys
And town lights are lit and Santa will sit
In a grotto giving children some toys
It’s that time of the year that brings us such cheer
As we drink and eat our Christmas Day feast
There are those in the cold like a forgotten soul
Sheltering in doorways till the festivities cease
And others with no one who are alone in their head
Searching for answers of things done or said
Wondering how a lifetime could bring them to this
A heart filled with loneliness and a time to reminisce
And those who’s bereaved lets offer a prayer
For them and their loved ones who’s in heavenly care
And to those in distress worrying how will they cope
Try hard to help them and give them some hope
Take a look in a mirror and see what you see
If I was alone would someone help me
Then open your heart and invite people in
The homeless and lonely then let Christmas begin
Hello all,
Just saying a little hello.greetings to everyone.
Hope we all have a peaceful Christmas
No doubt our health is our wealth.
Thinking of family extended family and friends everywhere.
Thinking of you all too.
Kindest regards
Jo.
Greetings to one and all everywhere. Having lovely weather here at the moment. Taking it easy lately too. Thanks Rita and yes Thanksgiving is a nice time here too. Took time myself to attend some special events to honor all soldiers in all wars . Our senior center honored all at our center.
We also had a really nice friend celebrate her 100 birthday a little while ago. Such a nice lady.
Anyway hello to all you girls n boys everywhere.
I’m off out to get a few messages. Need to top up the pantry and the fridge.
We never had a fridge in our house growing up.
God bless the frozen parlour hearthstone .
Milk stayed cold by the front door. On first step on stairs.
Jelly was set sat night to go with custard on Sunday.
Cheerio all.
Thinking of you all.
Jo.
Well Thanksgiving in Canada is not as big as USA but fun anyway when we get to spend it family or friends. Just over Halloween and in our neck of the woods is lovely and quiet mostly old farts like ourselves but get to see lots of grandkids photos over the net. My Dublin pal Mary had about 20kids come by in Scarborough Ont and a Dublin cuz told me no one came by there place and another friend in Dublin said it was like Bombs going over her home most of the night.
Lots of Rain this last week and too cold yet but after that long hot humid summer I don’t mind. Hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving Jo and keep up the good work Martin with all the stories of Cabra.
Happy Halloween MC

Stew
Martha Eastwood came to mind
As I stirred my pot of stew
Stew houses and soup kitchens
Came into my view
Autumn leaves falling along
The quarry road
A toddlers school bag seemed
Like a heavy load.
Four generations still walk those roads
Maybe even five
Humble beginnings sustain us deep inside.
……………………………………………………………….
Off now to have some comfort food
A decent Dublin stew.
Greetings to one n all from the other wild west.
Jo.

Hello Tony G. Thanks for update. I forgot to tell you Stephen was huge into photography. His all time passion.
His dad told us he donated his eyes. It touches us all deeply
That someone else will see through his eyes. I’m lost for words.
Perhaps you may find some words to share.
You are very gifted that way.
Hello to all

Thanks Martin,
Sure is interesting that you found her photo that sure is a bonus , one time I was lead to believe a GGGrandfather Daniel O’Malley was sent to Oz with 2 brothers but it was the wrong Daniel but made a friend there who was trying to find her hubby’s O’Malley line we were both very disappointed that there was no connection but it sure was a great Story.
Hi Joe
Silly old me……….just press Guestbook Entries at the bottom of the page or the one beside it……..Sorry Martin just spotted it and then you can see all the past stuff
Ms. R xo
Hi from Canada Jo,
Yes I noticed that sometimes you can only see a few posts 3 at the moment which is a shame as I don’t go on it too much and love to read stuff that I may have missed, thought I must be pressing the wrong buttons, maybe Martin can figure it out.
Always busy with the Ancestor searching keeps me out of trouble ha ha. Hope Greg has some luck at finding his I work on so many trees from both sides of our clan that I make my self dizzy at times, my eldest done his DNA on Ancestry he is busy with a young family so I set up his tree ,he has has some interesting matches even from the good O’Malley Cabra cousins, but nothing that I don’t know I am still hitting the brick wall on my Grandfather O’Malley side, sure would love to see a photo of him as died way before I was born.
Happy Halloween to all , I even seen Christmas hitting the stores over here, Anyway weather not too bad up here after a very Hot & Humid Summer, leaves are just starting to change colour, was at a great wedding a few wks back and a crowd from Ireland/Uk over so it made for a great time meeting folks from the Homeland.
Slan for now
Rita O’Malley McMahon
(Hello Rita, my Granny Burke from Broombridge spoke very little about her mother and we never knew what she looked like. In recent times I found her photograph, on her Prison Record. She had served 5 years for her part in a murder/manslaughter here in Dublin. Her sister served 7 years for the same offence. I was however delighted at finding her photo and that of her sister as well. So, you never know…’ MC)
Hello Rita,
Lots of fun when doing family tree.
Branches going in every direction. Think I’ll be exploring
Scandinavia next.
Hope all are well up there in Canada.
I have a lot of trouble with this site lately.
Not sure what else makes it on here.
It only shows me one post at a time .
It use to show a few. Sometimes 2.
Anyway I’m sure it’s all out there in the cloud.
Happy Halloween to one and all. Oct just around the corner.
Greetings from USA.
Jo.
