‘Put the kettle on…’

Published by at 11:10 am under News

Now I was never a tea drinker meself but the Ma’ and Da’ loved an ould cup of tea at anytime of the day or night. Now they didn’t have tea bags back then and during ‘The Emergency’ it was more sawdust than tea leaves they used. One of my Grandads worked down the docks during the war and always came home with a pocketful of tea. He’d give half to my Granny and sell the other half down the pub. The money he made on it was always put aside for the rent man. You know, years ago if people had nothing else they always had the makins of a cup of tea.
