‘Then and Now…’
‘My Granny lived in a tenement room years ago. I can barely remember she had an Over-Mantle piece with a mirror on it and a cloth piece on her mantle piece. Because she was brought up by the Nun’s she always kept her place clean and tidy. When the Ma’ would bring us to visit Granny we weren’t allowed to make any noise and we had to sit on the floor beside the fireplace. The smell going up all the stairs was terrible and my little sister used to be getting sick from it. Then later on my Granny moved to Cabra West and was always saying how much she missed her little room in town…’
